OMG, Joe was such a great guy. I learned to country dance in school with Joe and the five pennies. I got to know Joe as a singer and the county employee of Jack County Texas (Jacksboro) Texas. He was a great help to me when I worked for the local correctional facilities there. I never even seen anything that he was sick. I know Joe was a very God fearing man and I am greatly saddened by his passing.

We have lost another great Country Singer Joe Paul Nichols,he was one of the great ones.He always kept his music country,fiddle and steel.I think the Lord I got to play fiddle for him for 10 years.Rest in peace my friend.

Oh gosh, yes... Joe Paul was the real deal and country as a cob! RIP, big guy. Condolences to the family.

Joe Paul suffered terribly over the past few years with Lou Gehrig's disease. He was such a great person and always had a steel on his wonderful recordings. He will always be a part of my "Swingin' West" broadcasts.

I don't know what to say. Another Texas Legend gone. I was around Joe Paul a lot in Tyler at Custom Studios. When he was available, he would sing on my set at the early TSGA Shows. Another one of the good guys gone. May GOD bless and keep his family always. Jody.

Cundiff, Texas has lost a great human being. I was playing a gig recently, and Joe Paul, Jr. was there. We talked after my gig, and he confirmed with me that his dad wasn't doing well. I grew up very near his home and use to dance to his music as I was coming of age.

Joe Paul Nichols, as mentioned here many times, was as true as the blue sky. If there should ever be a picture of a man next to the description of a Christian it would be Joe Paul's picture.
I was lucky to have known him and been great friends with him. He recorded nine of my compositions and made me proud on them all. He loved his Family, Country Music, visiting with friends, and was very knowledgeable about REAL COUNTRY MUSIC. (He started putting a red sticker on his CDs that read, "Caution, Real Country Music!" He had a liner that used to play on KTFW (during the joe Bielinski Show) that said, "Real Country Music! With Fiddle, Steel Guitar and words you can actually understand". He will be missed R.I.P. Dear friend.

I first met Joe on the Cowtown Hoedown, then later on the Big "D" Jamboree, what a great person. I had the pleasure of working with him for 10 years and I'll tell you anybody that knew Joe knew it would be "Country" music. He never gave up his roots. My prayers go out to Carolyn and family. Rest in peace brother

I remember as a kid watching Joe Paul play and sing. We were related by marriage. His wife was my dad's first cousin. He will be missed. He was a great christian man.
