Frankie was a true pioneer of the steel and pedal steel guitar. Worked for a lot of big name stars and played on lots of top recordings including "I Love You Because" by Leon Payne. A great player and a true friend . RIP old friend, and may GOD bless, comfort and keep the family always. Jody.

Well, that is tough to take. His pro steel career dates back to at least 1947. In addition to Leon Payne, I think he also recorded with Harry Choates on "Gra Mamou".

Here are the 3 best pictures I have. The first, with an unknown guitar player. The second with Jerry Jericho's band in 1952. The third with the Melody Boys Of Rosenberg, 1947.

I first met Frank at the Columbus Opry. He used to talk to me at length during the break at the Giddings Opry. Such a nice man. He told me that he also recorded with the Possum in the early days. Married for 65 years to his bride. Frank will be missed.

Oh gosh, this is sad. Frank was a Texas legend and a wonderful man. I'd hear from him occasionally back in the '90s, and he'd sometimes make a rare appearance at the TSGA Jamboree.

If I'm not mistaken, Frank was the original owner of the Bigsby steel that went to Dusty Stewart, then Walter Haynes got it and used it when he played with Tater. I believe that steel is now in the possession of Jimmy Roy.

Rest easy, old man. You are loved.

Just this past Friday, I was listening to an El Campo, TX am radio station. They play alot of Texas country music and oldies. Leon Payne was singing "I Love You Because" and the steel player was really great. He sounded a little like Jimmy Day, but I did not thing it was him, so I looked on a Artist song list, and they had Frank Juricek, as the steal player. What a great steel player. May God comfort his Friends and Family.

How sad to hear! Frank used to come hear me play occasionally years ago when I had the band @ the Cactus Club in Houston, TX. May he rest in peace,

I went over to Brenham and bought some MSA parts from Frank 2 or 3 years ago, I enjoyed spending the afternoon with him and his wife. I enjoyed his stories of the old days in the music business. RIP Frank.

Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro.

I'm relatively new to the forum and this is my first post. I was able to purchase a very old Webb Amp from a fellow in Houston. Among other things, I'm an electronics tech and there has been a problem with the amp's reverb pan so I took the backplate off to get to the innards. Hand-written on the inside of the backplate was "Dusty Stewart, 12/31/1978". I haven't heard of Dusty Stewart, but, I'm a California boy recently moved to Albuquerque. Can you tell me more about him? This amp looks like it's taken some road abuse and then was stored in a barn or garage. It is very "Dusty". Still has that great Webb sound, though

Dusty is a veteran of Texas swing bands, recording with Hank Thompson, Hoyle Nix, and the sainted Link Davis. As far as I know, he is still out there.

Here is a pic from 1950 (with Jerry Jericho) and another from 1999.

Dusty also was a 2003 inductee in the Western Swing Society Hall of Fame, in Sacramento CA.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?
