For my Mom

Post by Scott Shipley »

I wrote this a couple of years ago, but could never finish it for some reason. I knew then why, and after I left the nursing home the other night, the chord progression came flooding into my head. I'm singing it for the first time Sunday at Mom's service.
Thanks again to everyone for all the prayers. It means a lot.

love never dies
s shipley '08

she looked up at me as tears ran down my cheek, she had her mama's eyes
i looked at her and could not find the words, to say what i felt inside
i know someday she'll be going away, to start her own life out there
it's hard to let go but there's one thing i know, love never dies

what do you think you would do, what do you think you might say
if somehow you knew, someone was goin away
if you could turn back time, and share just one more day
what would you do, what would you say

she looked back at me as tears ran down her cheek, goodbye was in her eyes
i looked at her and could not find the words, to say what i felt inside
i knew someday she'd be goin away, to find a new life out there
you can try and let go but there's one thing i know, love never dies

what do you think you would do, what do you think you might say
if somehow you knew, someone was goin away
if you could turn back time, and share just one more day
what would you do, what would you say

she looked up at me, tears ran down my cheek, as i looked in my mama's eyes
i looked at her and could not find the words, to say what i felt inside
i knew someday she'd be goin away, to a new life up there
it's hard to let go but there's one thing i know, love never dies

what do you think you would do, what do you think you might say
if somehow you knew, someone was goin away
if you could turn back time, and share just one more day
what would you do, what would you say
what would you do, what would you say

Scott, I feel for you. My parents died 3 months apart a few years back and when the reality of it finally set in, I was in a funk for quite a while. No amount postive thinking overcame what time alone accomplished. Stay strong, stay busy, and seek the companionship of those with whom you share emmotional and spirtual bonds. Playing music is probably the best therapy. Always reflect on the joys of family and how you were informed by it.
