John Paul Phillips of Georgia

Post by Bobby Bowman »

John Paul passed away yesterday, April 20'th, about 5:30pm. He was still in the hospital where he has been for a couple of weeks.
His son Josh said there will be a memorial service for him in the near future and that will be announced later.
JP was a good man and a good friend to many, a man of Christian faith and was active here on the Forum as well as the International Steel Guitar Chat Room.
May God rest his soul and give Comfort to his family.

God bless the "Pope" John Paul Phillips of Georgia. He was a very kind and trusting man. He and his family suffered many hardships and he had faith to see him through. He is home with the Lord now.

Unimaginable that John's son, Jason, died the week before he did. If you haven't heard the beautiful piece John wrote about his special son, please link to John's My Space page to hear the audio he called To A Special Son:

Rest in peace, dear man . . .

RIP John.

John was a very strong man with a strong faith.

I talked to him several times in the last couple years, and he always had helpful and loving things to say. Helping others was his greatest joy.

I certainly try to pass it on in a fraction of his example.

Sad news, indeed.

I always enjoyed John's posts in the Humour section. His warm personality shone through in his writing.

Our sincere condolences to John's family.

My sincerest condolences to JP's family.

He was a great friend and encourager to me. May God be with us and grant us mercy and peace as we grieve.

JP, one of these days we'll have another great conversation and play a tune together. Goodbye for now but not forever.

This has come as quite a blow to me !! I was following the thread in Ext Family hoping against hope that he could make a turn for the better but such was not to be. I have been a friend of his on this Forum for years. I have heard his eloquent tribute to his son and I have heard many other words of consolation or congradulation to others here. He was a fine man and I think what speaks so highly of him was his choice of an avatar.

Cousin Jody was one of the early pioneers of steel guitar and was heard frequently on the Grand Ole Opry. John said his respect for Jody, in using him as his avatar, was from their meeting many years ago.
His roots in this field run as deep as any but like so many other steel guitarists we have talked about over the years, he was truly; as is so often said:

ONE OF THE NICEST, GENTLE MAN, YOU COULD EVER HAVE THE PLEASURE OF KNOWING !!

And as many have said before me, I shall miss him for longer then I may have left to do so !!

Sad Regrets, Paul

Bobby,
Thanks for posting the loss of our dear friend JP. I
haven't been on in a few days so I missed it until just now. I am so very sad to know of John's passing. We had many late nights in the chat room and found that we had a lot more in common then the love for this beautiful musical instrument. He suffered the loss of his son and the loss of his health with strength and grace and never once did I hear him complain about his situation. I will miss those conversations JP. God bless until we cross paths again some day John Paul.

John was a special internet friend. We both had a "special needs" child and exchanged many e-mails about them. God bless both John and Jason.

I knew his health was not good but this is really a surprise to me! John Paul was a mainstay on the chatroom and always was upbeat even when things in his life were really grim. He was a good man with a great heart and he blessed many lives with his advice and joy for living. I'm glad he finally has gotten his reward. I know he is much happier than he was in this existence.

John was a true friend indeed, and will be missed a lot. We love you John. May God take you in with arms open and bless you and comfort your family.
Thank you Bobby for posting this, I had just learned about this. I have been having computer problems at home, and had learned about this at work on the computer here.John struck as an individual that never foregot what the important things in life were.
John your family and you are in Roxanne's and mine thoughts and prayers.
