Emmons Push-pull 10th string gremlin?

Post by Mark Hepler »

My Emmons stayed in tune through a gig this Saturday.

Unpacked and set it up two days later at home. My 10th E was pitched way low so I tuned it back up figuring I'd bumped the peg packing up the other night.

It worked fine for a half hour then shot up a whole step or so(How weird is that?) Seems stable now but it's a worry.

I checked the linkages etc. and didn't find any issues.

Any thoughts?

Look around on the floor and under the guitar. That sounds like the ball end of a broken string got stuck in the changer. Then it fell out and now it is back to normal.

Has to be something like that don't you think? . . . I'll look around for a ball end. I've noticed that the old original case sheds plywood bits--I try to keep it clean but who knows.

Thanks for the idea.

If you lower that string with any knee or pedal, the rod that lowers it may have come out of the hole it rests in and prevented it from returning or something related to the lowering.

That was my thought also. I wrote out a detailed troubleshooting guide for this but when I went to post it the forum was "not available" and it vanished into thin air. Fortunately pretty much everything on my list has now been suggested by others so no loss.
